Standardised training for judges
Because the judges and experts for the Haflinger breed play a significant role in shaping the development of the breed, a great deal is expected of them: Expertise and social skills, reliability and a non-political agenda alongside the ability to make clear and comprehensible decisions are only a few examples of the characteristics they need to demonstrate. Preparing them for their great responsibility is one of the main objectives of the WHBSF.
Website design
One of the top priorities of the WHBSF is to set up an up-to-date website with a wide range of functions for users in general but especially for member organisations. That way, the Federation can provide a key platform for Haflinger-related organisations of all kinds. The success of the website will however strongly depend on how much and what kind of input the individual sports and breeding organisations contribute.
Harmonising Haflinger breeding
Parallel to the founding of the WHBSF, a commission of experts for the Haflinger breed has been set up as an independent body to assist the Italian national association (ANACRHAI) and the Haflinger Breeders' Association Tyrol (HPT) in keeping the original Haflinger stud books. The commission has already started working on crucial issues such as harmonising the breeding register codes of the two organisations in charge of the original stud books. The aim is to create a standardised breeding register code.
Fohlenhof Ebbs designated central point for Haflinger breeding
While the legal registered office of the WHBSF is located in Bolzano/Bozen (South Tyrol, Italy), the Fohlenhof Ebbs stud farm (Tyrol, Austria) has been chosen as the designated centre for Haflinger breeding. An office for all matters and questions related to breeding has been set up there under the direction of stud manager Robert Mair. The office can be contacted on zucht(at)haflinger-world.com. A database for stallions is currently being developed.
Creating centres of excellence
What once seemed merely a visionary idea now appears to be within reach: Because several breeding organisations offer similar services, it seems only natural to create key synergies such as designated centres which offer performance tests for stallions and aptitude tests for mares.
